Undoubtedly the biggest Major of the year as the best players in the world compete for the coveted Green Jacket. There are a few angles I like here in a variety of markets and bookmakers.
Bryson DeChambeau To Miss The Cut – Betfair (11/10)
A shadow of himself from 2020 when he was seen to revolutionize golf with his monstrous driving ability. Plagued with injuries and now the LIV cloud over his head, no one is quite sure what you will get with Bryson this week. His LIV performances have been tough to figure out with Evens, +7 & -7 not exactly making for easy reading. His aggressive style could quickly come back to bite him as if he makes a few errors early on the first day, he could see himself playing catch-up which is not something you want to be doing in Augusta. He also missed the cut last year and it is hard to see signs that he has improved.
Jason Day Top Rest of World Player – Paddy Power (11/2)
Jason has seen a remarkable rise up the ranks this year after a very poor couple of years after the standards he set for himself in 2015 and his last Tour win in 2018. Day has played some real steady golf this season after completely reworking his swing and has seemed to have found his putting ability again. His toughest opposition for Best of The Rest will be LIV Player Cameron Smith. LIV players are the real uncertainty of the tournament as they haven’t been competing week in week out against the rest of the PGA Tour and therefor, I’m not sure where he match-up next to these guys. Day has finished 2nd and 3rd in The Masters before and has has competed in 10 Masters Tournaments so certainly is familiar with the course and how to string together a good Weekend with 4 Top 10 finishes.
Patrick Cantlay To Win Outright E/W – Bet365 (18/1)
Par 5 Birdie & Eagle rate is one of the most important statistics when it comes to winning the Masters. In order to win, you have to to make the most of the infamous Par 5’s that Augusta has to offer. Cantlay’s Par 5 Birdie percentage leads the PGA Tour this year with 61 out of a possible 94. This equates to 64.89% which is approx. 3% better than 2nd place Rory McIlroy. Winners are made on the Par 5’s and backing the best Par 5 player this year can only mean good things. You can take this straight up to win at 19/1 if you’re feeling brave or can take Each way to pays 8 places for the tournament.
Scottie Scheffler & Rory McIlroy To Both Finish Top 10 – Bet365 (2.24/1)
This may be my favourite bet of the entire competition. These 2 basically lead or are close to the lead in every important statistic for the PGA Tour this year. Scheffler is as consistent as you can get in the last 18 months or so and even won this tournament last year. Even if he doesn’t play his best game, he is still good enough to finish in the Top 10. Many are predicting and hoping that this is finally the year that Rory gets that elusive Green Jacket. Everything is set up for him this year to give it a good attempt. He is 3rd in Masters scoring in the last 10 years so as long as he can stay composed, he will be fighting to the very on Sunday night. Rory’s driving ability is no secret and with Par 5’s being the key to success for the last 5 Masters winners, this should suit his play-style tremendously.
